I took a very long hiatus from social media a few years ago. My purpose here is to raise awareness, to be a voice amongst the crowd.
I’ve been enjoying a warm welcome to the platform. We passed the 500 mark. I wanna just say thanks for fighting, thanks for taking the time and I’m glad to be able to give you a different perspective on the world.
To the people afraid and feeling alone: me too. Even if you have friends and family, perhaps even comrades. It can feel too big. It is big. It’s valid to be afraid, but we need to work through that. Not so we aren’t afraid. So we can function. Expecting fear to go away is sometimes just more exhausting.
Fear is what keeps us alive but it can also keep us frozen.
Fight, flight and freeze. It’s often presented as a dichotomy that it isn’t. Responses are even more varied than this, but it is to illustrate that fear doesn’t always cause your hair to catch fire. Sometimes fear manifests as a deep sense that you’re helpless.
You are not helpless. You’re powerful as long as you are aware and in command of yourself. Not control. Command.
You’re steering a meat robot from inside a skull. You can make demands and suggestions or plans but ultimately the body does break. Control is not always possible. Some people when they experience this, they cry. Some become angry. Removed from peers, withdrawn. Lethargic. Feelings of impending doom or dread…
It’s time to be the best self you can muster. with whatever energy you can manage. It’s time to experience your pain and keep going. It’s time to grit your teeth and take heart. You are among millions. You are not alone. You are not powerless. You can do this. You can get up tomorrow. You can make the tough calls. You can make the sacrifice. You can.
You will.
You must.
I said it as much to myself as to you, dear reader.
Canary.
